whoa--thanks for the hot tip here.

Most excellent simple simple interface for listening. Account creation is turned off right now for some server upgrades they say, but I'm so looking forward to trying.

This is finally the party mixtape solution maybe?

I tried it this morning. You can't access any of the already-created muxtapes without an account, so I created an account... but it's not allowing me to log in. I have sent an email off to help. But now I see comment #1 mentions that account creation is off! That explains it...

Maybe a stupid question but - I don't get it - this seems brilliant but are there not copyright issues? I see that I need to have permission to use a song - how do i get permission? Contact the artist? Is there a creative commons type site that lists mp3's.

I'm fairly sure that this falls under fair use. As you can see, the music is streaming...not downloading. A major factor in fair use and copyright infringements have to do with whether the use of the product creates some kind of market competition or if this would replace the original albums in the market. It's kind of the same concept as Pandora, so I really doubt people will all of a sudden stop buying albums and only listen to music on Muxtape. But I am not an attorney so I could not say for sure.

There are some other .mp3 streaming sites that have nice interfaces as well ... the one that's been getting some attention lately (because of the threat of legal action, naturally) is my personal favorite, seeqpod. Very nice Flash interface and lets you save mixes. Or muxes. And the discovery engine always comes up with interesting new stuff I haven't heard before.
