Gaming in Libraries Presentation, Eh?

Filed under: precat — jenny @ 6:22 am

I just returned from giving a presentation about gaming and libraries to a crowd of enthusiastic librarians at the NetSpeed Conference in Calgary. I love doing presentations for and talking with Canadian librarians, because I think they do a much better job of pooling resources and working together than we do in the U.S. I’ll be interested to see if they apply that same effort to gaming (I’m betting they will).
For those NetSpeeders who may be visiting here for the first time, welcome! Please feel free to leave a comment about the presentation or gaming in general. The slides will be available at http://theshiftedlibrarian.pbwiki.com/ later today.
I also want to thank the conference organizers for making a donation to the Lois Hole Library Legacy Program in my name. What a great idea. Yeah, Canadian librarians rock hard.

  1. I met Lois Hole in Edmonton when she was Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta. What a wonderful person! I’d be happy to have something donated in my name to any cause with her name on it.

  2. Lol, love your title… isn’t the “eh” the truth? 🙂
I have great respect for Canadian librarians as well, and must say I love the Alberta libraries’ battery, too cool!

  3. Hi Jenny,
I really enjoyed your keynote. I glad to see like minded people in the education business. Gaming culture could be invaluable to us or the bane of our existence. We need to seize a leadership roll or have it roll over us.

  4. @Ryan: Thanks!
@ TBL: There were several great images like that one. I should have taken more pictures of each one individually.
@ Vincent: Thanks – you folks were a great group! 🙂

  5. I absolutley loved your keynote – thanks so much. I just spoke with our public services assistant today about putting together a couple “gaming kits” the 41 libraries in our system can book for their libraries. We are thinking a kit with a PS2 and a variety of games. I’m personally partial to Guitar Hero while she favours Dance Dance Revolution :). Any thoughts on what would make a first rate “gaming kit?”
    Thanks Again!
