After waiting a half-hour on the phone, I finally got through to a tech support specialist at Sprint and they tell me that I'm not alone in being unable to access the internet on my Treo 600. Apparently they're having a network problem nationwide, so if you are also getting the "network 130" error message, you'll just have to keep trying.

Most interesting, though, is the specialist's assertion that the problem is bandwidth. He said so many people are trying to get online because it's a holiday weekend that it's overloading the network. Could cell phone internet access be reaching a tipping point?
