The First Step Is Admitting It....

You can't say I'm not doing my part to speed the adoption of broadband in our fine country. Today Merri wrote me, "I'm finally going to break down and get DSL, as dial-up no longer suits my purposes, now that I'm a blogfiend." You can witness her addiction firsthand on the blogified SLS home page.

As Kate responded, "One down, millions to go...."

Feed the FeedDemon and Technorati the Newsmonster

FeedDemon Beta!

"Are you ready to use the ultimate Windows desktop news aggregator? The time has come for you to download the FeedDemon Beta. I've been alpha testing it for weeks now and can honestly say that it's coming along very nicely. It won't hose your system, either. Give it a shot - especially if you're an RSS newbie...." Hey, Merri - you might want to add this one to the list of aggregators you're going to try. Oh, and Steven says "Sifry mentions that the new release of Newsmonster incorporates Technorati right into the aggregator."  :-)

Raiding and Trading Librarians

"I want to see online reference librarians become the first web celebrities, flesh and blood personifications of the Internet, sought after, overpaid, and spoiled, who are raided and traded just like professional athletes. I want to see library webpages become essential local information resources with busy online communities that spontaneously create entirely new social structures. Most important, I want to see the library profession finally move to center stage in the Internet revolution, where we should have been all along." Jack Colbert, librarian, Librarea

Thanks to book notions for highlighting this quote! Lots of other interesting links from their pages, too.

Will Update Soon!

Sorry I haven't been able to keep up with the CIPA flow. I have lots of stuff I want to link to, but Brent's baseball team is making a surprise run in the playoffs and it's keeping us pretty busy. Who knew a baseball game for 7- and 8-year olds could go into extra innings and last FOUR HOURS.

Anyway, hopefully I'll be able to catch up soon. Thanks to everyone who has sent me email and left comments. I'm responding as fast as I can!

Two tangential personal notes:

  1. For posterity's sake, it turns out that Brent is a great pitcher and we're quite proud of him!
  2. A happy belated birthday (by less than an hour) to my brother, Bruce!
