Trading Libraries

Steven Cohen explains why a library degree is so great - you can survey the entire profit and non-profit world and decide which niche interests you the most. In his case, he went from a public library to a private law firm.

"So, I decided that it was time to seek out employment elsewhere. But where? In what type of library? Should I send resumes into academia? Corporate libraries? Law libraries? The choices seemed endless.

But, that's one of the advantages of a degree in librarianship; one has many options from which to choose when job hunting."

When I was in library school, I used to read through the Directory of Special Libraries because I was trying to decide this very issue for myself. I thought about NASA, CNN, Disney (sure am glad I didn't pursue that one!), etc., but look where I ended up - public libraries and then at a multi-type Library System. And I don't regret one minute of it. Obviously Steven doesn't either. More such stories from this month's Info Career Trends (November 2002) over at LISjobs.com.

Libraries Circulating Audible Titles

In doing a quick ten minutes of research for someone I met at the Access conference last week, I've discovered I can't find a full list of libraries that are circulating Audible titles. So for my own memory, here's the beginning of a list:

I found a press release that there were more than 25 public libraries contracting with Audible as of June, so I've got an email in to the company asking for an update. I'll let you know what I find out.
